Grace, Idaho - Provo, Utah - And Everywhere In Between
October 6, 2020
Hola mis amigos y familia! I hope your week has been stellar.
I officially hit the halfway mark through the MTC :') 3 more weeks and I'll be on a plane to southern California.
With us graduating from the "newbie" spanish class and moving onto intermediate, we had to get new teachers and new people to teach. This was honestly really sad because we all loved the people we've been with! BUT I'm super excited to see what these last few weeks bring.
At the beginning of MTC we realized that 8/10 of us lived in Utah or Idaho and decided we would find a way to meet up with each other at some point. SO we threw a plan together and we were able to (almost) all meet up this morning! Grace, Idaho was our furthest north residence and with me down in Provo as our southernmost member, it was thankfully doable!
We played a questionably long game of cornhole (got the win with Elder Peacock after 40 grueling minutes), ate pizza, and enjoyed taking pictures with the Brigham City temple. Let me tell you, it was odd to finally meet everyone in person after only seeing them on a screen for weeks. We figured out Elder Sorensen is actually a ginger?? and Elder Osmun is tall enough to be a viking warrior?? We also figured out that Hermana Selman and I are really tiny in comparison to all of them (5'2/5'5 gang). Haha, honestly though, it made me so happy to be able to spend time with the people who know exactly what I'm going through and care about me too!
On a spiritual note, general conference was incredible! I hope you took the time to listen and if not I encourage you to do so when you get a chance. I loved the focus on unity, preparedness, and long-suffering. Two of my favorite talks were "Eyes to See" by Michelle Craig and "I Believe in Angels" by Carlos Gadoy.
Each of these talks focused heavily on our ability to lift and love the people around us. I feel a special responsibility in my calling to be an extension of the Lord's loving hand to everyone I meet, BUT you don't have to be a missionary to be an angel for someone!
So! I have a challenge for you. This week when you find yourself with a moment to yourself (on your phone, in the store, etc.), look outward. Instead of mindlessly scrolling through social media (which I am guilty of often) or scanning your items at the checkout line without a word, take a minute to really see the people around you.
Send a text to someone you feel needs a little extra love.
Ask the cashier how they're doing and how their day has been.
Have patience with someone when they do something that bothers you.
Take just a few minutes to really see someone like Christ does and let them feel that love through YOU!
(and feel free to send me an email about it ;)
I know that we can truly make a difference in peoples' lives when we fill our own actions with charity, patience, and humility.
Mosiah 2:17 And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn awisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the bservice of your cfellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.
Have a wonderful week!
Con amor,
