Sunny San Diego ☀️

November 3, 2020
Hola everyone!

The rumors are true and I have arrived in the BEAUTIFUL land of San Diego! I say land because this city goes on in
every direction and every corner fills my mind with new culture, people, and nature.
Picture this:
You're on your morning run around mission bay and the sun is rising over the palm trees casting a pretty pink hue over
everything. THEN you see dolphins surfacing in the water ???
Yeah WHAT!! So beautiful. The Lord really has created so much beauty in all of the world around us.
On the topic of nature (you know me, I love my plants and animals), here is some of the highlights from that
this week:
1. Palm trees and pine trees growing side by side. So odd.
1.5 The plants in general are so different and interesting. Succulent bushes, trees and foliage that bloom year round,
and cactuses as big as trees!
2. Dogs EVERYWHERE. I have seen some of the cutest, fluffiest, biggest/littlest dogs of my life out here. People are
always out walking because the weather truly is as good as everyone says it is.
3. I've held a stick bug, Guinea pig, squealed at a cockroach, made friends with little kitties, and forced my companion
to stop at every living thing we encounter. That zoologist in me is WONDERSTRUCK.
Speaking of my companion, Sister Horton, she is incredible! If you are lucky enough to know my angel sister Matty,
they are carbon copies of each other. Literally the exact same person haha (easy going, patient, soft spoken, etc.)
Sister Horton has introduced me to missionary work and the city and we've been busy!
With COVID things are naturally slower, but we've had a couple member lessons this week. I'm excited to meet some
of the people she has been teaching previously this next week. Pray that we can find more people to teach and serve!!
(Also we're doing a bible study this Friday on the Come Unto Christ in Northern San Diego facebook page at 3 pm PST
if any would like to join 🤪 )
We are busy busy as missionaries, but we are taken care of! We live in an apartment just above Old Town and it's lovely.
We also have a car to be able to get from place to place. Even though we're pretty isolated from everything, we are super
dedicated to reaching out to people however we can.
I've been able to teach a lady on the plane about the church, go to an old catholic mission, run along the bay, experience
Old Town, explore La Jolla cove (complete with sea lions and crashing waves), meet new missionaries and friends,
BUT
my favorite experience has been seeing the San Diego temple.
The temple is so magnificent and reminds me of the sacred promises we are able to make with God there. I may seem
very much like a tourist this week because it's all so new, but I know I'm here with a very specific purpose.
I know that God is acutely aware of me and has a plan for me. I'm so thankful for this opportunity to serve.
Take time this week to focus on the little ways God is involved in your life. How is He bringing great things to pass through
 small means?
Alma 37:6
Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great
things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise

Con amor,
Hermana Smith ❤
I'd love to hear from you!
Also happy Halloween ???? This week has been such a blur hahhaha
